At the end of last year Creative Market asked me if I would like to get involved with their ABC Design Project. They asked 26 Creative Market designers to design a letter of the alphabet based on a given concept. These letters were used to create posters and prints – the proceeds going to All Hands to help their recovery efforts in the Philippines. As one of thousands of designers on the site I was honoured to be asked to participate in the project!

The letter G

I was given the letter G and asked to design my letter around the theme of grids and structure;

“Grid – A structure made up of a series of intersecting straight or curved vertical, horizontal and angular lines that is used to organize elements and content.”

I found this a challenging (but enjoyable!) brief because my style is generally illustrational. I was also applying the concept of vertical and horizontal lines to a curved letter.

Grids are generally minimal so I chose to apply that concept to the styling of my letter. I was really pleased with the final outcome and love the optical illusion created by contrasting colours.

I hope you love the project! It’s a great way to buy great design and help a good cause at the same time.
