Pink roses

Bloomin’ marvellous

Everything is looking a bit soggy at the moment, so instead of posting a garden update this week I’ve got something a bit more cheerful to show you. These photos were taken on our holiday in Norway last week. We were walking around Bergen and I spotted a florist called Toneblomst. The fact that it was pouring with rain was the perfect excuse to stop and have a nose. I forgot to take a photo of the actual shop but this is what they sold…

Pink roses

Looking at these made me feel like it was Summer again. Although I did a double take when I saw that the price for one very small bunch was ~£14!

Red, pink, purple and white flowers

I’m not sure what these bulbs were but they looked nice piled high in a wooden crate.

Green and pink roses. I’m not normally a fan of pink but I really like dusky/muted pink with green.

Bunches of dusky pink roses

Purple and green hydrangeas. There were lots of these growing in gardens around the city – good reason to move there if you ask me.

I’m not sure if these are peonies or some sort of roses but again I like the pink and green together.

I’m going to keep my eyes peeled for some of these frosty looking plants. We have lots of heather in the garden, the two plants make a good pair.

These berries made me feel Christmassy. Is October too early to say the c-word?

More roses! They didn’t sell any of the orange, hot pink or yellow varieties we get in our supermarkets and florists. Instead, all the colours were very muted. These green roses were my favourite because they looked really fresh and remind me of Spring.

Bunches of mint green roses

Love the bright colours in these bunches against the brown paper wrapping.

If I hadn’t been on holiday and money was no object, I’d have bought one of everything from this shop!

  1. what beautiful colors. hope you had a great time Gemma!

  2. Beautiful! Such cheery, gorgeous shots, compared to soggy gardens! Thanks for making me smile 🙂

    • I’m happy to look at photos of other peoples soggy gardens, but I’ve been looking at my own for too long 🙂

  3. Blimey, £14 for a bunch! I knew Scandinavia was expensive but that’s impressive. I would love to visit Norway (maybe I might bump into Morten Harkett?!) Such a beautiful country and lovely colours, despite the season it seems.

    • It’s a beautiful place, even in the rain. Maybe they were £14 because I made a beeline for the most expensive florist in Bergen…probably not.

  4. What a fab sounding holiday! It is great how nature makes us reevaluate things and look at colours, shades and shapes in new ways. I love those roses!

    • The roses are my favourite too Sarah. Back home I love the yellow roses but now I’ve seen these pastels shades, I want some!

  5. What a gorgeous set of photos! I love all the pastel shades, so pretty. Just lovely 🙂 I’m looking out at torrential rain and a mud bath in my garden, this cheered me up! #HDYGG

    • I’m glad its cheered you up 🙂 It’s a very grey day here, did the trick for me too.

  6. I love a proper florist like that but not the prices! How wonderful to capture the colours though. I would love to visit Norway for similar reasons to Iona (we must both be of the same age!)

    • Same! We have a nice florist where I live that I like having a nose around for inspiration.

  7. These shots are so beautiful and romantic. I much prefer this to the bright, artificial colors seen in the major grocery stores here. This shop just drips with that old-fashioned, romantic notion of Europe. Thanks for sharing.

    • Me too! I loved all the colours of flowers for sale, everything fitted together perfectly 🙂

  8. oh i would love to nose round a shop like that i think i would end up spending a fortune too

  9. Awww thanks for sharing! Your photos looks nice to look at esp on a gloomy day! What uplifting colors! #hdygg

  10. Oh how much do I love this Gemma? After a grey day here I’m loving these colours – beautifully photographed – ah next time I must sneak into your suitcase! I just want to lean in and sniff them all…
And it’s not too early to think about the C-word – I’ve seen holly bushes heavily laden with red berries this week!

    • If I take a few snacks out of my suitcase I could probably fit you in next time! Surprisingly I don’t think I could smell any flowers at that shop. Perhaps it’s a feast for the eyes rather than the nose at this time of year.

  11. Oh my really breathtaking. I can only imagine the smell.

  12. such gorgeous bouquets! i especially loved the subtle pinks in the roses. they seemed so elegant.

  13. What fabulous photos and it’s lovely to see how flowers are sold in other countries too, it makes you think how much they’d shudder if they saw our garage flowers! (Although to be fair I shudder at those too! 🙂 )

    • Haha! I think they would shudder. All the flowers I saw for sale there were very muted and classy!

  14. So much gorgeousness! In love with that first shot!! 🙂

  15. Beautiful colours, I love the dusky pink roses, so delicate. I hope you had a wonderful holiday
