Christmas is only five days away so I decided it’s time to write my last post of 2016 and log off. I’m going to take a break from internetting to enjoy the holidays and feast on Christmas food.
Eating
Most of my foodie focus this month has been for Christmas day. I’ve made a few bits ahead of time and frozen them, others I’ll make the day before or on the 25th:
- Cranberry sauce
- Bread sauce — so good!
- Caramelised onion gravy freezes really well
- Braised red cabbage with apple
- Clementine cake for Christmas day
- Cinnamon buns to go with breakfast on Christmas day
Exploring
Earlier in the month, we headed up to the Hebden Bridge area in Yorkshire to visit family. It’s a lovely place; lots of stone houses with big wreaths on the doors at this time of year. Most of my photos are of wreaths, oops.
We went to a great antiques centre there and I picked up this old milk bottle for £3.
‘H. Eateon. Tuberculin tested milk. Gables Farm Hallaton’.
I’m not sure how old the bottle is but I did a bit of research into tuberculin tested milk and compulsory bovine TB testing was introduced in the 1950’s. So it could from around that time or later.

Early Christmas
We had an early Christmas day at the weekend. Family from further away were visiting so we got together to open some presents and eat a big meal. This is our niece experiencing her first Christmas… well, technically she’ll have two this year.
And that’s about all I have for this month. I want to say a big thanks for following all of our adventures and updates this year, I’ve loved reading all your comments 🙂 Especially your best wishes for our wedding and my cycling accident earlier in the year — they mean’t a lot.
