Around Stockholm, April 2024

The beginning of April was as cold as it looks in these photos. April bakslag fooled us again, as it does every year. It was month of even more snow, blåstjärnor, påskris, the whir of Winter gravel collection, dogs without coats, lighter evenings and the first cherry blossom flowers. As I sit here, finally writing this post in June, it's hard to believe how much things have changed since April!

I was happy the snow returned for one last hurrah. And a big one at that. There were a few flurries throughout the month but none as impressive as this one.

Påskris made from wool instead of feathers, outside Svensk Hemslöjd.

Boats started returning to the water after spending most of Winter under cover in boatyards. This one was first to arrive at the mooring spot down the road.

We stood on Centralbron and looked back towards Mariaberget. The view looked very different compared to January when the water froze over completely.

Towards the end of the month, whirring echoed through the streets of Stockholm. Gravel is blown out of nooks and crannies, into piles that are later gobbled up by sweepers. The process takes several weeks and creates loads of dust.

Scott spotted this cool old firewood and potato box on Södermalm! We'd never noticed it before despite walking down this road many times.

That’s all for April!
