Around Stockholm, November 2024

November was a month of saffron buns, Winter sun (more than last year), the first snow (less than last year), colourful sunsets, roe deer, wooly hats, delivery of war and crisis booklets to every household, dry air, poinsettia, julstjärna in windows and hyacinths in supermarkets. Temperatures were also weirdly mild — I love getting all my knitwear out but I didn't need it much.

EN: "Where the hell is the sun?"

We found these notes on a bench near home:
EN: "You who did this.
You have to take it down.
You are shit sausages."
Someone graffitied the bench and kids decided to voice their dissatisfaction. "Shit sausage" is the best insult in the world!

"Be the person your dog thinks you are."

Just after lunch on Södermalm. So dark!

Lussekatt (Lucia cat) are sweet saffron buns. Their twisty shape looks like a curled up cat and they sometimes have a raisin in each twist, to resemble cat's eyes. They are a popular fika choice during and advent and Lucia.
I love this time of year because bakeries are a sea of bright yellow treats — lussekatt as well as regular buns and biscuits with added saffron.

Our first snow arrived on the 21st November! This was our walk to the supermarket; I feel very lucky to have so much forest nearby.

Darkness really set in towards the end of the month but I liked the mix of blue and orange light — everything felt more cosy.

And that’s all for November! I didn't take my camera out as much as usual, so it was slim pickings by the time I sat down to write this post. That said, I have a few good ones and have continued my streak.
