Around Stockholm, September 2024

September was a month of the first yellow leaves, fewer tourists, people in jackets followed by a blast of heat (28°c), clattering cutlery in outdoor restaurants, heaps of kantarell and an undertone of lethargy that comes from knowing months of darkness are looming.

We woke up on Södermalm to a thick curtain of fog. The spire on Söderhöjdskyrkan looked particularly atmospheric! I don't remember seeing a great deal of fog when we lived there, so this was a treat for a moody weather lovers like us.

This mural painted by Erik Jeor is titled Styvmorsviol – Trefaldighetsblomma – Viola Tricolor. I've seen various murals on the building since living here but this one is my favorite — partly because these viola grow in crevices and between rocks on the archipelago landscape I love so much.

People seemed to be relishing the diminishing loppis season, and their last chance to find bargains!

Slussen always has a steady stream of cyclists. Rush hour can be pretty chaotic but everyone weaves into the correct lane and things keep moving at an impressively steady pace.

That’s all for September!
