Scrappy fabric twine
I've discovered something really addictive. Making fabric twine out of material scraps. Kiss goodbye to your evenings this week, I'm sure you will be as addicted to this as I am!
I found My Poppet's Handmade Scrap Fabric Twine on Pinterest. I thought I'd give it a 'quick go' and ended up spending over an hour making a ball of twine. I kept telling myself I'd wind on one more piece and before I knew it I had 7 metres sitting on my lap! It's really simple to make, you just twist pieces of fabric and wrap them over each other. The twine in these photos was made from fabric scraps 2cm wide; the finished twine is about 4-5mm wide. Next time I'm going to use thinner pieces with the aim of winding something only a few millimetres thick. I'll probably crochet the thicker ball and use the thinner one for gift wrapping.
The beauty of this twine is you can put any combination of colours and patterns together. In fact, the more different they are the better! I'm not sure what I'm going to use mine for yet but it's a great way of using up waste fabric that would otherwise end up in the bin.
