Around Stockholm, February 2024

February has long gone. Between the amount of time that has passed, and the fact I spent a good chunk of the month in Athens, my memory is a little hazy. Two things in particular have stuck in my mind though... snow and semla! And they're probably the most important things anyway.

I arrived home from Athens the day before fettisdagen (Fat Tuesday). Just in time to eat these delicious cream stuffed buns!

Most of the water at Hammarby Sjö froze over! You can see a narrow boat corridor in the distance but even that was full of free-floating ice.

Boats slowly crunched their way to the jetty. Once on the boat, we could hear the rumble and occasional thud of ice bouncing off the sides. Tricky for boats, excellent for ducks though...

Palestine demonstrations made their way through the city at weekends. Drums beating. A stream of flags, homemade signs, young people, old people and everyone in-between (even a few dogs).

The demonstrations had a police escort, lead by officers on horses.

This dog was desperate for lap time, or a dance partner. I'm not sure which.

I'm always impressed with people who continue taking a dip during Winter, despite the ice. It's also a popular Summer spot but we've never swam here because this jetty is rarely free.

That’s all for February!
